Hair wings for Rui Official
This sculpture is composed of wings made from synthetic hair. Associated with transformation, freedom, and transcendence, the wings are constructed from an artificial material that imitates the organic qualities of human hair while remaining unmistakably manufactured.
The work explores the tension between the natural and the artificial, the real and the constructed. The strands of synthetic hair create a surface that appears soft and familiar, yet reveals a sense of distance and artifice upon closer inspection. Through this contrast, the piece reflects on contemporary notions of identity, desire, and self-representation, suggesting that even our aspirations for freedom and elevation are often shaped through acts of fabrication and performance.
Suspended between body and object, the wings evoke both vulnerability and empowerment, inviting viewers to imagine transformation as a process that is at once personal, symbolic, and culturally mediated.
